Living independently is not always easy for people with an intellectual disability. Four students from the Arteveldehogeschool in Ghent would like to give them a helping hand. For their final work, Laurens, Brecht, Gustaaf and Louis launched ‘Unlimited Cooking’, a cookbook tailored to people with intellectual disabilities.
“We hope that we can help people with disabilities who want to live independently with their leap to independent living,” says Louis. The cookbook consists almost exclusively of photos and contains as little text as possible. “That is to make it as accessible as possible. We really focused on simplicity,” he said. The cookbook has 13 dishes. “From small hunger to big hunger and from fresh salads to typical Flemish food.” Each dish also has a separate QR code. When you scan it, the recipe is read out loud.
