Validation programme for professional qualification for childcare worker for babies and toddlers
What the profession involves
The childcare worker for babies and toddlers raises and cares for babies and toddlers upon their arrival and stay at the childcare setting until pick-up time. As such, she provides a stimulating, safe, hygienic and healthy (play) environment.
The childcare worker for babies and toddlers:
- supports and supervises babies and toddlers in their activities, encouraging them in their development and drawing on their talents and sense of initiative.
- provides opportunities for babies and toddlers to practise their social skills, encourages positive interactions among them, and sets boundaries.
- recognises the social-emotional needs of babies and toddlers and responds to them so they feel comfortable.
- supports their overall development by observing their behaviour, recognising the social-emotional needs, and reflecting on them in order to adjust actions accordingly.
The parents are recognised and supported as having primary responsibility for rearing; she actively listens to their concerns. By dealing and working with all stakeholders in a constructive, positive way, making agreements, asking for feedback and reflecting on this, the functioning of childcare can be further improved.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as a childcare worker for babies and toddlers at a validation body, you can do so through a practical test, a role-play and an interview. In addition, you must show how you would react in a number of situations.
The language of instruction for the tests is Dutch.
You must:
- organise and supervise various sessions:
- a guided game session
- a free play session
- an eating session
- a rest session
- a care session.
- deal with colleagues and parents correctly.
