Validation programme for professional qualification as a scaffolder supervisor

What the profession involves

The scaffolder supervisor assembles, disassembles, converts and repairs both standard and complex scaffolding configurations. He/she supervises the scaffolding helpers and scaffolders according to the current safety regulations. He/she inspects scaffolding constructions with standard configurations, carries out a user inspection on scaffolding and releases them to be used as safe scaffolding constructions.

The scaffolder supervisor:

  • supervises and communicates about the scaffolding construction to the scaffolding helpers and scaffolders;
  • assesses the quality of the most common scaffolding materials;
  • draws up a materials list for all common scaffolds;
  • assembles, disassembles and safely converts all common scaffolds;
  • repairs or restores all common unsafe scaffolds to a safe condition;
  • assesses and inspects scaffolding with a standard configuration and, after inspection, transfers the scaffolding to the client;
  • conducts an inspection or re-inspection of scaffolding with a standard configuration at the client’s request;
  • works at height.

If you want to demonstrate your experience as a scaffolder supervisor to a validation body, you will need to take a practical test and a written knowledge test.

The language of instruction for the tests is Dutch. You will need at least a basic knowledge of Dutch to take the tests.

You will be tested on whether you can:

  • assemble and convert a scaffold with the help of at least one scaffolding helper or scaffolder, and meet the following criteria:
    • upright scaffold with a standard configuration,
    • with extension,
    • on unstable ground,
    • with a working floor height of at least 6.25 metres,
    • with an access point,
    • with a post interruption for an obstacle,
  • dismantle the scaffolding,
  • indicate how an unsafe scaffolding with a standard configuration can be restored to a safe state,
  • indicate how an unsafe scaffolding with a complex configuration can be restored to a safe state,
  • assess and inspect scaffolding with a standard configuration.
