Registration of the death of a stillborn
If a child who was carried for more than six months dies shortly before or after birth, a death certificate must be drawn up, as for any other death.
Conditions
The registration of a stillbirth is obligatory from 180 days (26 weeks or 6 months) of pregnancy onwards.
If the pregnancy lasted between 140 and 179 days, the child can be legally registered and be given an official name.
If the pregnancy did not last 140 days, the child is not legally registered nor given an official name.
Procedure
The stillbirth must be registered with the register office of the place of death. It can be registered by the parents or by the funeral director.
