The capacity tariff
The energy bill consists of 3 parts: the energy cost, the network tariffs and a number of levies.
Network tariffs cover the costs of building and maintaining the electricity grid, among other things. You pay them to your supplier through your electricity bill. Your supplier then transfers the network tariffs to your distribution system operator.
Until January 2023, network tariffs were charged based on your consumption (kWh). Since January 2023, part of the network tariffs are charged based on how much electricity you use at the same time (kW) (= the capacity tariff). The capacity tariff is therefore not an additional tariff, just a different way of charging.
