Heating with fuel oil: what is still allowed and what is not?
As of 1 January 2022, you are no longer allowed to install or replace a fuel oil boiler in certain cases.
What heating devices may I install in existing buildings?
Is a natural gas grid available that you can connect to?
- If so, you may not install a fuel oil boiler. Minor repairs to existing devices, on the other hand, are still allowed.
- If not, you are allowed to install a fuel oil boiler to replace your old heating boiler.
- If it is not clear, you can consult the tool ‘connectivity to the natural gas grid (in Dutch)(opens in new window)’ of Fluvius. After entering the address of the building, four options are available:

What heating devices may I install in new-builds or buildings undergoing a deep energy renovation?
You are no longer allowed to install a fuel oil boiler in new-builds or buildings undergoing a deep energy renovation with a building permit requested from 1 January 2022. Even if a connection to the natural gas grid is not possible.
